Company Founder, Straight Mom Shares Story and Dishes About Gay Marriage

Kathryn & Gretchen HammStraight mom and founder of our company, GayWeddings.com, had a vision in 1999. She wanted every couple — lesbian, gay or straight — to have access to all the wedding products and resources they needed to help them plan their weddings. And, because she could find almost nothing for two brides or two grooms, she set out to transform the wedding market.

Twelve years later, the original online boutiques of TwoBrides.com and TwoGrooms.com are still thriving — and growing — but now under one roof as GayWeddings.com.

The BabesEnter the co-hosts of the weekly radio show, 2BoomerBabes.com: Barb Kline and Kathy Bernard. "The Babes," as they are affectionately known, speak with best selling authors and subject experts, as well as individuals who have paved the way for the boomer generation.

The Babes gave Gretchen a call recently and, for the first time in several years, Gretchen tells her story about founding the business; shares her take on trends in same-sex wedding planning and the emerging market; discusses the company's groundbreaking recent relationship with WeddingWire; and shares her feelings about marriage equality.

This interview aired in February, 2011 and is approximately 13 minutes in length.

2BoomerBabes is a continuing conversation about boomer issues. Co-hosts Kathy Bernard and Barbara Kline explore topics such as coping with our aging parents (and perhaps adult children living in our basements), romance in mid-life, health, and finance.

As part of the largest generation in history, the 2BoomerBabes seek the vast audience of boomers who are traveling the same road, and facing the same adjustments at midlife. The Babes speak with best selling authors and subject experts, as well as individuals who have paved the way for the boomer generation.

Barbara Kline and Kathy Bernard created and co-hosted the “Our Kids” television series, which aired in the Washington, DC area and received an Ace Award for Best Local Program. Sixteen years later, both have seen their youngest off to college and are now in the throes of a new life venture. Hence, the birth of 2BoomerBabes website and radio show.

The 2BoomerBabes embrace this new stage of life as an adventure with unlimited possibilities.

The 2BoomerBabes Radio Hour is broadcast by NPR affiliates WSCL 89.5FM and WSDL 90.7FM each Saturday at 11 a.m., immediately following Car Talk.
