Full Marriage Equality Recognized By The Supreme Court!
“My dream when I started this business,” said my straight mom and company founder, Gretchen Hamm, “was that someday there would be no need for a separate wedding boutique for same-sex couples. I envisioned a day where marriage equality would be the law of the land and services and products would all be folded in together.”
Hey, Mom! That day is finally here!
It seems so simple now: her desire to see marriage equality as the law of the land. But, back then, it was an uphill climb or, perhaps better put, something for which we didn’t yet have a road map or a large enough, galvanized group of supporters on the issue.
But here we are today, celebrating this incredible milestone. After 15 concentrated years of advocacy efforts, lawsuits, and same-sex weddings, the Supreme Court has upheld the lower court decisions, which found that state marriage bans are unconstitutional. Specifically, they have decided Yes to the first question, that same-sex couples have a Constitutional right to marriage and, as such, all states must recognize out-of-state marriages.
We’ll have more to say soon enough about the opinions issued by the court and the options for engaged couples, but in the meantime we are thrilled to raise a glass to this celebration of love, now accessible for all couples nationwide.
