Baltimore Engagement: Kelly & Kristin

Kelly & Kristin had their engagement photo session at a park in the Baltimore area on Feb. 24, 2013. “This was the first time we were both professionally photographed to this extent,” Kristin said. “It takes some getting used to -how to stand, how to hold your head – but once you get it, it is very fun.”
Their wedding was just a few months later, in April 2013, in Washington, DC. “We loved the whole weekend and having all of our closest friends and family in town to celebrate,” Kristin said. “Some of the highlights included our friends singing during our ceremony, filling the dance floor with all of our friends and family, and seeing so many people so happy.”
The brides met online via OKCupid in December 2010.  Kristin saw Kelly’s profile and liked what she read.  One of the things that caught Kristin’s eye was that Kelly loved playing basketball and coming back ‘bruised and exhausted,’ which appealed to Kristin’s own competitiveness.  Kristin wrote Kelly and they exchanged a few emails until arranging their first date at CoCo Sala in Washington, D.C. Kelly still refers to Kristin as the ‘girl with the backpack,’ because Kristin showed up with a backpack slung over her shoulders (she carries it to work).  They chatted over chocolaty drinks and decided to extend the date with dinner at Rosa Mexicano. They ended up spending the rest of the evening hanging out and having great conversation.
They had talked about marriage for a while, and had started looking at rings.  After several shopping trips, Kelly asked Kristin to pick the rings and take care of ordering them.  They had a trip to New Mexico and Portland coming up, so Kristin told Kelly that the rings would be ordered and delivered after their vacation.  But in fact, Kristin ordered them so that they were delivered before the trip. It turned out that one of the rings was incorrect and had to be sent back, and Kristin was out of town for work during the scheduled re-delivery time. A work colleague of hers signed for the package, and Kristin secretly packed the rings for the trip.
After nearly a week holding on to the hidden rings, and on their last day in Oregon, they went to Gearhart Beach with Olive, Kelly’s dog. “It was an awesome day, with barely anyone else on the beach,” Kristin recalled. They were walking and talking, and at one point Kristin started saying that, in her OKCupid profile, she had mentioned the kind of person she was looking for, and that Kelly was all of that and so much more.  Kelly was confused as to why Kristin was bringing up an old OKCupid profile, until Kristin pulled out the ring and asked Kelly to marry her.
