Elegant Hotel Fashion Shoot Engagement: Brent & Keoni

Spotlight Studios
Brent and Keoni met at a mutual friend’s party. Brent saw Keoni across a room, approached him and asked for his number. The next day, before Brent had to drive back to San Francisco, they went on their first date and the rest is history.

Being avid snowboarders, Brent knew he wanted to propose on the slopes. They were visiting Keoni’s family in Washington and he suggested they go to the ski resort where Keoni grew up snowboarding. In the middle of the day, they happened upon a secluded spot at the top of the mountain with a view of the snow-capped peaks of the Cascades. Brent unstrapped from his snowboard and got down on one knee.

The best part of their engagement session was having a photographer who understood their vision and was able to execute it exactly as they imagined it. They were able to build a near-instant chemistry with her.

The grooms are building an event that they hope their guests will enjoy as much as they will. The most challenging part has been how much the wedding industry caters to brides. They attended a couple of small wedding expos and felt like there was not much to offer for a wedding for two grooms. They really have to step outside of the box to find inspiration for their wedding.

Brent and Keoni recommend having a long engagement, saying “We’ve been engaged for 18 months with 9 months to go and it’s been absolutely wonderful. It has allowed us to completely enjoy every moment of being engaged and planning our wedding. For same-sex couples, don’t be afraid to be trailblazers. This is our chance to challenge heteronormative wedding traditions and redefine how weddings look for couples like us.”
