Massachusetts Urban Engagement Session: Kate & Ayn

Kate & Ayn first met at a Bikram yoga class, keeping in touch through mutual friends. They developed a crush, and their friends took the initiative to push them towards making a first move.

Ayn proposed to Kate on the floor of their kitchen where they’d constructed a winter picnic to celebrate their three-year anniversary and upcoming Valentine’s Day. Along with the ring, Ayn gave Kate a carabiner to attach the ring when she took it off at the beach or gym!

The engagement session was filled with laughter and some nervousness. Photographer, Tiffany, made the couple feel so comfortable, though, that they quickly relaxed and showed their natural personalities.

Planning a wedding has been like planning the biggest party of Kate and Ayn’s lives. They get so excited thinking about having everyone they love in one place, and making a long weekend of it. They can’t wait to refer to each other as “my wife!”

The most challenging part of the planning so far is figuring out the sleeping arrangements in the lodge at the venue. They are also still trying to figure out where to begin with their decorating.

To other same-sex couples, Kate and Ayn emphasize that there are no rules. They advise, “choose which traditions appeal to you and leave out the ones that don’t,” adding, “you also might find that there are people in your life with valuable skills and a willingness to help.”
