Minnesota Winter Engagement Session: Kerri & Deb

Maris Ehlers Photography

This fun engagement session goes back to January of 2013, but the happy couple is irresistible and their images are worth a trip down memory lane.

When they became engaged, Debbie and Kerri had been partners for 13 years and live in Arizona, where the courts did not legally recognize same-sex marriage at the time. The legal battle didn’t stand in their way – tired of waiting for their own state to do the right thing, they held a destination wedding in August 2014 and were finally awarded recognition at home in October 2014.

Debbie and Kerri visited Minnesota, where their engagement photos were taken. Photographer Maris Ehlers, a family friend, was delighted to be part of the acknowledgment of their love and commitment to one another. She boasts that not only was the session great fun – but it also wasn’t the coldest winter day in Minnesota (thankfully!).

They began by shooting at the historic bridge in Hanover, Minnesota, and then traveled to the shores of the Crow River. They wrapped up their session downtown for some local, urban flavor.
