Surprise Dallas Proposal and Engagement Shoot: Troy & Robert

It didn’t take long for Troy to realize that Robert was the person with whom he wanted to spend the rest of his life. Meeting him was like starting to gather pieces of a puzzle that would one day be the first day of the rest of their lives together.

Planning the proposal and engagement session was special and magical for Troy. Dallas has a special place in both of Troy and Robert’s hearts. Robert’s best friend lives in Dallas and acted as Troy’s special agent. She helped create the illusion that would lure Robert to Dallas for a “birthday weekend.”

Troy and Robert share everything – the same music accounts, the same emails and same search engines. So, to hide any ideas of the proposal, Troy had to be very sneaky. He masked his search history by creating additional retail accounts so Robert wouldn’t see it. He purchased decorations, tools and lights and had everything shipped directly to his friend in Dallas so Robert would never know.

A week before leaving for Dallas on their “mini birthday vacation,” Troy told Robert that he had hired a modeling fashion photographer for a high fashion photo shoot they would be doing. Robert has a passion for the fashion industry, so naturally he was excited. Little did he know that Troy hired the photographer to capture the moment of their lives that would change everything.

The day of the shoot, they were staying at Robert’s friend Maria’s house in Dallas. Robert left early in the morning for a haircut. Troy woke up Maria and they rushed to the site of the proposal. They decorated the scene with 75-feet of café lights in the pouring rain. They were drenched!

They rushed back to the apartment after decorating trying to come up with an excuse for being soaking wet. Robert believed their little white lies and the day continued as planned.

The shoot started with casual wear and individual shots, group shots, then couple pictures. They traveled all over Dallas to express their fashion-inspired creativity.

The last stop of the day was a beautiful park in the heart of Dallas. Troy told Robert that the photographer had requested special suits for the last pictures. They dressed in the middle of a park, behind a tree! They went for their couple pictures, and after four or five, Troy asked Robert to take a funny picture with him. He knelt down to one knee and Robert pretended to be shocked. At least, he pretended until Robert pulled a ring box out of his sock and opened it. Troy asked if Robert would spend the rest of his life with him, and he said yes.

Robert yelled out, “HE SAID YES,” which seemed to echo through the park. Suddenly, their family came running around the corner with a sign that said, “He said yes.” Robert was shocked and started to cry. Seeing him so happy made Troy realize even more how much he wanted to see that smile every day.
