Western Engagement Session: Eva & Lyn
Eva and Lyn met in high school. They were, and still are, best friends. However, they realized during high school that they were more than friends and have loved each other ever since.
Instead of a proposal, Eva and Lyn mutually agreed to be together. After 12 years, they already feel married. They decided to make it official when New Mexico gave same-sex couples the legal right to marry.
For Eva and Lyn, choosing the right photographer was critical to the success of their engagement session. They were honest about their status as a same-sex couple from the beginning, and their photographer, Lyndsey, never hesitated.
Planning the wedding has been stressful, but Eva and Lyn have given themselves plenty of time to get everything done. They love brainstorming with their families because it allows them to include them in the preparations for the big day. The most challenging part of planning has been confirming the number of guests they should expect. They are having a destination wedding and it is hard to plan unless you know your guest count.
Eva and Lyn offer this advice to other newly engaged couples: “Start planning early to avoid the stress. For same-sex couples, the best advice would be to be honest with the people and vendors you are working with. Everyone has the right to his or her own opinions and beliefs. If you are honest with everyone then you avoid the situation where they want to back out at the last minute because they don’t believe in same-sex marriage.”
