Backyard Wedding: Steph & Erin
Steph and Erin tied the knot on July 30, 2011 at a chic and perfectly planned ceremony in Steph’s father’s backyard in Lake Forest, Illinois. Though Steph took the lead with the planning, the wedding honored the ecological sensitivities of both brides. They considered the environmental impacts of their choices, and opted for a rustic, nature-feel for their day. Their flowers, displayed in mason jars, were picked from the property. They also prepared hand-painted signs to guide their guests around the 5-acre property. Guests were invited to create notes using a vintage typewriter. The brides had their “first look” moment in a field of wildflowers, where they exchanged hand-written notes. There were plenty of hugs and tears. They also posed for photos near the very vintage corvette that had made an appearance in Steph’s parents’ wedding photos many years prior.
For their best man, they chose their dog Subie, whose tie matched Steph’s outfit. After a touching ceremony, as the brides exchanged their first kiss, they were adorned with a perfectly-timed butterfly release. Following the ceremony, guests enjoyed signature mojitos, and the brides’ sisters sang while a friend accompanied on acoustic guitar. Guests had a blast with the photo booth, and each one was gifted a pint glass with removable mustaches.
