California Ranch Wedding: Meggan & Ashley

September 23, 2014

Meggan and Ashley met as baristas at Starbucks and became best friends. Their friendship developed into romance and in 2010 they decided to unite in a committed relationship.

Meggan proposed to Ashley on June 13, 2013 in Laguna Beach. Ashley loves books and Jane Austen, so Meggan incorporated both into the proposal. It was the same day that Edward proposed to Bella in Twilight, which had special significance to the couple.

Meggan presented Ashley with a handmade calendar that had all of their most important dates in it, ending with “the day our lives changed forever.” She then handed Ashley the book Eclipse and asked her to read from the page where Edward proposed to Bella.  There was a note at the end of he paragraph that told her to ask for the next surprise. Meggan handed Ashley a book-shaped container with Jane Austen quotes all over, and inside the box was a letter she had written and their engagement rings.

The brides chose Limoneira Ranch when they fell in love with it, and could not have imagined a better place to marry. It was one of the most beautiful and serene places they had ever seen.

Planning was challenging as both brides were very busy with new jobs and school. They were on the same page, however, about most decisions and benefitted from their venue’s recommended vendor referrals. Together with their vendors they created a personal, perfect wedding.

Meggan and Ashley chose not to create a seating chart, allowing friends and family from all points in their life to mingle. It was a special evening knowing that all of their guests were there to support and love them. They were surprised by some in their lives who didn’t support them, so knowing those in attendance were there for them was meaningful.

Meggan and Ashley wrote their own vows, and their officiant created a perfect, personalized ceremony. She ended the ceremony saying “I hope that after many years together you can look at each other and say…because of you, I have lived the life I have always wanted to live.” During the reception, guests answered trivia questions about the couple, and took photos with handmade props that represented their story.

Their favorite memory was walking down the aisle, Ashley escorted by her uncle and Meggan by her cousins. Alexa Wilkinson accompanied them during their walk singing her song “First & Last”.

Meggan and Ashley gave the following advice to engaged couples: “Remember that this is your special day and your promise to the person you want to be with. The people who want to be a part and share in this joy with you will be there and help make it special. Just remember it is about your happiness and no one else’s. Make this day the way you want it and just take a few moments throughout the day to stop, look around, look at your spouse, and soak it all in!”
