Cancun Elopement: Ashley & Hunter
August 6, 2015
Ashley and Hunter met at a kids skating party. Ashley’s friend was having a joint birthday party with her brother for their kids. Hunter was a friend of the brother’s, so they both ended up at the same party. Hunter messaged Ashley on Facebook after the party and sent her phone number. They have been together ever since.
Their proposal was spur of the moment. Ashley had the ring for a couple of months, and always told Hunter she wouldn’t ask her near a holiday, birthday or anything that could be celebrated too close to it.
One day, Ashley told Hunter to get ready and pack her bags. The couple went to Lake Erie, near Ashley’s grandparents. They went to their favorite spot, a light house, and Ashley pretended she left her phone in her car. She was trying to find the ring that she had buried under all of the clothes, which wasn’t easy because she was so nervous. She told their daughter to “show mommy.” When Hunter kneeled down to see what she had, it was her ring! It was the perfect proposal, just Ashley, Hunter and the kids, and came as a total surprise to Hunter. It was seven days before Valentines and one year, two months since they became a couple. It was a day that neither will ever forget.
Not many brides can make the same claim, but to Ashley and Hunter, wedding planning was not the least bit stressful. They booked their resort and found that it had everything they wanted in the form of a wedding package, and was the perfect backdrop at the right price. The wedding planner was amazing and took care of everything including the little details. If they could, they would do it the same way all over again. They are even returning to the same resort for their anniversary!
Photography was very important to the brides and they wanted the best possible pictures to remember their once-in-a-lifetime event. They wanted to be able to look at them in 20, 40 and 60 years and still love them like they did the first time they saw them.
They count the experience with their photographers as one of their favorite memories as they didn’t have family there for the wedding. The fact that the photographers were a couple made it even more special. They truly had a blast despite the fact that Ashley isn’t terribly comfortable with having her picture taken. Everything was relaxed, fun, and natural – exactly what you need to tell a love story.
Ashley and Hunter have a lot of great advice to share with other couples: “Our advice would be to pick the right resort don’t rush into the choice. Look at all the reviews and what it all has to offer. It’s your wedding day. A great resort will make your day perfect or (make you) wish you never did it in the first place. Ask your resort if they are okay with same sex marriage on the property before booking your resort. The same goes for your photographer: don’t assume that just because it is legal they are okay with it. If pictures are important to you then spend the money on them, you get what you pay for when it comes to things like this. The lower price ones might look good right now, but are you going to love them years later? We looked at, what felt like, every resort in Cancun and about 4 photographers before we decided on what we wanted for our day. One more thing: enjoy every minute of your day, be selfish and get exactly what you want!”
