Candlelit Urban Rustic Firehouse Chicago Wedding: Bert & Dave
Oct. 10, 2015
Bert and Dave met in 2009 at an academic lecture on the constitutionality of same-sex marriage. Dave was filming the event and Bert noticed him right away. He said to his friend “who’s the cute guy working the camera?” After the lecture, there was a reception and Bert went over to Dave, introducing himself. And so it began…
In 2013, after being together for four years, they knew that they wanted to get married. Neither one “popped the question”. They both knew the answer would be yes. So, one night they were talking about when they should make their engagement “official” and decided to update their relationship status on Facebook. That was that.
Working with a planner made everything so much easier and stress-free. This was the only wedding the grooms had ever planned, and they were clueless about a lot of details. Their planner, Anthony, guided them through the process and helped them make great decisions while avoiding the bad ones.
Bert and Dave chose their venue for its intimate yet rustic feel. The ceremony and reception were held in the same space, which was “flipped” during cocktail hour and changed from a gorgeous ceremony site to a reception wonderland.
They fondly remember walking back into their reception venue after the cocktail hour and seeing it totally transformed from the ceremony into a magical dining room. They loved being surrounded by family and friends as they started their new lives together and reveled in the love and laughter.
The little details were special to the couple. Dave is a huge LEGO fan, so he designed a LEGO cake topper and made LEGO hearts to give out as their favors. One of the ceremony readings was about two dinosaurs; so they bought a bad of tiny toy dinosaurs and hid them throughout the venue with the flowers. Their guests really got a kick out of discovering the dinosaurs.
