Classic Romance in the Nation’s Capital: LaToya & Cheryl

Sept. 15, 2012

When LaToya and Cheryl first met on LaToya’s birthday—Jan. 12, 2011—they were already old friends, having met on Match.com, then exchanging texts and emails for two months prior. Maybe that’s why LaToya said she immediately knew she wanted Cheryl in her life after that first meet-up.

“My soul, everything inside me, relaxed in her presence,” LaToya told us. “I’d never felt that sensation around anyone before.”

The two quickly fell in love, and six months later the couple moved in together—even though neither women said they were looking for a relationship at the time. LaToya said it was easy to see Cheryl was a person with a good heart, intelligence, maturity, and she made her laugh.

One and a half years later, the two wed at Hilton Alexandria Mark Center in a heartfelt ceremony overlooking the Washington Monument. LaToya’s favorite part of the day was when the brides joined hands at the altar.
