Colorful Oklahoma Pop-Up Wedding: Katelyn & Samantha
July 15, 2015
Katelyn proposed to Samantha amidst red roses and candles in Samantha’s sister’s backyard. It was quiet and romantic. She asked Samantha to meet her there claiming she was helping her sister with yard work. As Samantha walked on the stone path around the house, her sister played the couple’s song: “Angels” by The XX. Katelyn was waiting on one knee as she arrived.
Samantha had actually planned to propose at dinner that night as a surprise because it was their anniversary, so she had Samantha’s ring with her. They both proposed together and then shared a champagne toast with her sister in glasses handed down from Samantha’s grandmother.
The brides chose their venue with the help of Brittany from Hitched! Wedding Co. The Tulsa location had a vintage rustic feel, fitting their personalities perfectly. The planning had been difficult before hiring Brittany, but went very smoothly and successfully once they enlisted her.
Katelyn wore her grandmother’s earrings and a garter loaned to her by her best friend. The camo garter was the one she wore in her wedding to her late husband who also served in the military. Samantha wore a necklace loaned to her by her mother. It was purchased in Durango, Colorado on one of their family trips and held a very special significance to Samantha.
Katelyn remembers the kiss as being her favorite moment in the day, but will cherish every moment from the beginning of the ceremony until the end of the first night they spent as Mrs. and Mrs. Howard.
Their advice for every couple would be to do what makes you happy. Don’t worry about pleasing everyone, or fitting into a social norm. Just be yourselves and everything will fall into place!
