A Creative Capital Wedding, Providence, RI: Michael & Richard

Nov. 14, 2015

Michael and Richard were married in beautiful downtown Providence (a.k.a. the Creative Capital). Richard says for years to come, they will “smile, cry, and laugh as they look back at all the memories that were made that day.” The wedding not only celebrated their love, but their downtown Providence community, their family and friends and the monumental Supreme Court ruling that made the day possible.

Grace Episcopal Church is only a block from where Richard and Michael live, and the reception venue, Providence Gas Company, is only four blocks away from the church. The proximity gave them the idea to do a parade post ceremony to the reception. The couple had pedicabs waiting for them outside the church to take them to the party, followed by a local band and 175 of their guests!

Once everyone arrived at the reception, they had a dance party in the street. Big Nazo, a local puppeteer lab, sent out a lobster mascot to honor Michael’s roots in Maine, and a hot weiner mascot for Richard, who is from Rhode Island. It was a true celebration of Providence’s creative side.

The cocktail hour was held on the roof deck of the Providence G. The reception was in the ballroom, once a showroom for high-end stoves that still features the original marble from the 1910s. The after party was in the pub below the ballroom – all three venues were under one roof.

Michael created the programs, save-the-dates, invitations and signage used at the wedding. The couple had a wedding logo that incorporated the Providence G.

Richard and Michael even created a fun hashtag, a combination of their last names Pezzillo and DeGrandpre – #DeGrandzillo. To this day, the name is a running joke among their family and friends – a great way to remember an amazing day!
