Downtown Los Angeles Rooftop Wedding: Kate & Iyan
Kate and Iyan met at a friend’s birthday party in Anaheim more than seven years ago. There were a lot of people there. Iyan was busy talking when for some unknown reason she turned to the door and noticed Kate walk in. She glanced at Kate, and though she continued talking to her friends, she realized that for a second, she was looking into her future.
After a mini-honeymoon getaway to the Castro District, and to Napa and Sonoma for wine tasting, Kate and Iyan were happy to share some advice for other couples. They recommended planning ahead and said that, “Making a list of to dos really helped. Recruit as many friends as you can to help you out with wedding preparations. Organize your ceremony and reception accessories (put them in large bins) so you won’t forget anything. Designate somebody to place your accessories so you don’t have to worry about them later.”
On a personal level, they want other couples to know that, “You will fight, have arguments, get stressed out or maybe regret the entire wedding planning. But know this, It was all worth it!” Iyan said, “When I saw Kate walking down the aisle, I knew that all of our friends and family witnessing us getting married was something that we will treasure for the rest of our lives.” She added, “The hardships of being in a gay relationship, coming out to our parents, to society – it brought my family and hers closer because it validated our commitment to each other.”
