Real Wedding: Evan & Devin
Evan Martin & Devin Williams
October 1, 2011
Evan & Devin celebrated their commitment to one another last fall in Portland, Oregon. They had the vision to add several meaningful and fun touches to their ceremony and reception, while also realizing that planning a wedding can sometimes take a village. In their case, a team of knowledgeable pros laid the groundwork and supported the celebration, but also bridged the gap to participate in this special day with as much heart as their own community of friends.
What is your favorite photo from the wedding? Why is this your favorite?
Our favorite picture is the one with the two of us and the umbrellas. It shows us hamming it up and just being who we are. It is also very artistic and shows the elegance of Portland.
Can you tell us about the most meaningful symbols incorporated into the ceremony and/or reception?
As major fans of Disney animation, the most creative touches that we added to the ceremony and reception were the subtle hints of Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland such as the Mad Hatter cake, the black and white dance floor, and the little “Drink Me” bottles scattered throughout our reception area.
What was your most favorite/special response a wedding guest shared with you about being a part of your Big Day?
We tried to make our reception a celebration not just for us but to help us celebrate our family and friends as well. Everyone has commented about how impressed they were with the Portland Art Museum as our ceremony/reception location and how smoothly everything ran and how professional everyone working our event was. Emily with Emily G Photography was more of a friend helping us with our photos rather than just a photographer working a wedding, and she designed and created our fabulous guest book and programs, too!
Any special shout outs to the friends, family or vendors who supported you in your planning?
Vibrant Table Catering was an integral part of planning our special event and making it run as smoothly as possible, from decorating the event space to preparing and serving the food and drinks to handling the flowers and cake. Emily with Emily G Photography took on a substantial role in planning the timeline for our ceremony and took the most beautiful and artistic photos that brings our special day to life every time we look at them. And Mark and Lynn of Media Jockeys from Celebration Music and Events helped bring the party atmosphere with excellent DJ music (and even choreographed our first dance!) We’d also like to thank our wedding party for helping make our day even more special and by supporting us in sharing our commitment to one another. And our nephew Kai for being the best one-and-a-half year old ring bearer, ever!
What’s your best piece of advice to couples who are planning their weddings for 2011?
Select the photographer first! The right photographer will provide you creative insight and direction to make your day even more special than you originally anticipated because he/she will have a true understanding of how to capture a lifetime of memories.
Any special plans for you as you consider how you might celebrate your first wedding anniversary?
We’d like to have a mini-celebration with our wedding party and a handful of close, personal friends to commemorate our first year together.
Anything else you’d like to add?
Not only did Emily memorialize our ceremony and reception, but her photo packages include an engagement session that helped us to get more comfortable for our wedding day photos.
