Hilton Head Island, South Carolina Wedding: Krista & Jennifer
June 3, 2016
Jennifer proposed to Krista nonchalantly while the two, who initially met through mutual friends at a University of Louisville basketball game party, were relaxing in bed. They were waiting to take Krista’s son to his prom when Jennifer became fidgety. Krista knew something was going on, and the next thing she new, Jennifer asked her to marry her.
Krista really wanted a beach wedding, so they decided on Hilton Head, the first vacation spot they visited together as a couple that neither had been to before. It was beautiful and had a great family atmosphere.
Krista and Jennifer attribute the ease of their planning to their wedding planner, Lisa, who made everything stress free. She helped with all of the details of their destination wedding for which they were particularly grateful as they didn’t know the island well.
Both Krista and Jennifer felt that the entire day was memorable and will be cherished forever, and agree that hearing the vows that they wrote for each other was the most special part.
Krista’s favorite moment was seeing Jennifer for the first time while being escorted by her dad and son to stand beside her best friend. Jennifer’s was also the moment she watched Krista walk down the aisle. They did not see each other the night before and it was the first time she saw Krista in her dress. She said Krista was “breathtakingly beautiful.”
Krista and Jennifer offered some advice for other couples planning their own same-sex weddings: “Our first thing would be to hire a videographer. That is the one thing we didn’t think we would miss, and it is by far our biggest regret. Make sure that the destination or venue is gay-friendly along with any vendors you may use. Hire a wedding planner who makes everything enjoyable so you don’t have to sweat the small stuff.”
Krista and Jennifer asked that we share a photo of their bridal party in honor of one of their groomsmen, Louisville Metro Detective Jason Schweitzer, who was tragically killed by a drunk driver on Oct. 29, 2016.
