Historic Pleasant Home Wedding in Illinois: Laura & Patti

Bokéh Studios
After almost twenty years and having three children together, Laura and Patti celebrated the day they thought they’d never have. The brides married at Pleasant Home, in Oak Park, Illinois on August 9, 2014, in a beautiful, laid-back ceremony that fulfilled their dreams.

Pleasant Home is considered one of the earliest distinguished examples of Prairie School Architecture in the nation, and operates as a living museum.

A Carefree and Casual Wedding in Illinois

Laura and Patti met in 1994 and have grown their family together since. They decided to recommit to each other in front of their closest friends and family when same-sex marriage became legal in Illinois. They describe their wedding as casual and carefree. The most significant thing about their day was that their guests spent valuable time together as they witnessed a most pivotal moment in their lives.

A fun atmosphere was the focus of the day, and the brides compiled their own music for dinner and dancing. “We were able to listen to old music that we love,” shares Laura.
