“I know you’d prefer season tickets but I got you a ring,” Keirnan said as she proposed to her baseball fanatic girlfriend Jenny. The two women were at Lake Tahoe when Keirnan proposed, literally inside the freezing cold water, because the beach was too crowded and she wanted privacy.

They met at a New Year’s Eve party in 2009 in New Jersey, and have been inseparable since. They shared their love of baseball, and much more. Four months after they met, in April 2010, Jenny moved from the East Coast to Menlo Park, California, to be with Kiernan. She left the security of a full time job and took a temp position. “It was very quick but we knew it was meant to be,” Jenny said, explaining that Keirnan is the best person she’s ever been around. “She is a very loving spirit, people are drawn to her.”

A few months later, they were engaged. Jenny, who is a middle school guidance counselor, and Keirnan, who is a physical education teacher, now live in Santa Clara. They chose San Francisco as the backdrop for their engagement photo session in the Fall of 2010 because they love the City. Equally in love with baseball, the two women go there as often as they can to watch a game, which they did at the end of the engagement shoot. They had a blast being photographed. They didn’t want to pose, instead going for candid and fun shots. “We have a very fun relationship, we laugh a lot,” Jenny explained.

They wedding was the following summer, at the end of a cross-country road trip including a stop at Wrigley Field in Chicago and a couple of Giants games. They got married at City Hall in Boston on July 22, by an officiant who left them with this advice: You nay not like each other all the time, but remember that you love each other, and treat each other with respect.

In the evening they took their family to a Red Sox game at Fenway Park. The following week they had a huge party for 150 people at Jenny’s aunt’s house outside Philadelphia. “It was a special place for our family,” Jenny said. Her aunt had married her partner there, years earlier.

The party was casual and fun, paying no heed to tradition. A local band kept people dancing for hours, her brother-in-law had his catering company bring in delicious food, and her aunts ordered an amazing lemon cake from a local bakery. They rented some tables and chairs and let people sit wherever they wanted. Her nephew was supposed to say a blessing, but instead he lead everyone in singing “God Bless America.”

“The bigger point was that everyone have a blast.” Jenny said.

Not surprisingly, there was no rehearsal dinner the night before. Instead, they’d taken 30 family members and friends to a Giants-Phillies game the night before. Tailgating included, of course.

“The whole week was a love fest,” Jenny said.
