Maryland Historic Mansion Wedding: Janeen & Ashley

Robin Shotola Photography

July 5, 2014

Janeen and Ashley have been friends since high school. They had freshman gym together and bonded over skipping class to hang out on the outside tennis courts. They lost touch after that first year, and stayed out of touch for the next 10 years or so. Ashley was the memory that haunted Janeen after high school, though. Years later, Ashley found Janeen on MySpace and they became friends.

Ashley and Janeen became engaged in April 2013. Ashley planned an elaborate proposal at an LGBT theater, but with the ring burning a hole in her pocket, she couldn’t help but propose a few days later after watching “Life of Pi.” The movie’s message about valuing life and the moment struck a chord, and Ashley took the opportunity to propose.

The brides shared the same favorite memory of their day: when they first saw each other as they walked own the aisle.  Janeen, a sneakers and t-shirt girl, was wearing a full-length wedding gown, with white Timberland boots which she subtly revealed to Ashley when she began her walk down the aisle.

Janeen and Ashley recommend that other couples “do what you want, and not what others expect of you on your big day!”
