Modern DC Wedding: Justin & Nathan
Oct. 25, 2014
Justin and Nathan met in 2008 when both were in undergrad at Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina.
They had lived together for over a year when Justin proposed to Nathan, devising an elaborate scavenger hunt to special locations in DC and involving some of their best friends in the plans. After the proposal, they took a mini weekend getaway to Baltimore, where Justin had reserved a room at a five-star hotel.
Their venue was the perfect place for the size of their wedding. They loved the central location and the roof deck that allowed them to have their wedding outside.
Justin’s surprise song to Nathan, the couple’s ring warming and their first dance were among their favorite moments on their wedding day.
The newlyweds have lots of great advice for other couples planning their own weddings. Justin wrote, “It is possible to have an affordable wedding. To do that, it’s important to sit down and decide what the two of you find most important in order to stick to your budget. For example, we wanted to make sure our guests had great food, so more money was directed to catering than decor. I also encourage couples to relax, and think about what the purpose of your wedding is for. For us, it was an opportunity to be with our closest friends and family to celebrate our commitment to each other.”
