New England Nautical Wedding: Jamie & Donnie
July 27, 2014
Sometimes you meet someone, and you know they are ‘the one.’ This was the case for Donnie and Jamie. They had their first date in Boston on June 27, 2012, and they have been together ever since.
In August the following year, Donnie and Jamie were planning a trip to San Francisco and Napa, CA. Donnie had no idea that Jamie had bought a ring and was planning to propose.
Jamie had planned for a limo to take them early in the morning to Napa for a hot air balloon ride at sunrise, then breakfast at Auberge Du Soleil. Unfortunately, the winds did not cooperate and they were not able to go on the hot air balloon. Some quick reshuffling of plans with the limo driver, and they were off to watch the sunrise over the vineyards of Napa, and on to breakfast.
At breakfast Jamie asked the Host if he could have mimosas brought to their table in the champagne glasses he had made for the occasion. One said “Marry” and the other said “Me”. Minutes later, they were engaged!
Donnie and Jamie had discussed many different options for their special day. Both love to travel and thought a destination wedding would be ideal. The only complication was that their ceremony would not be recognized in many places. As both are from Massachusetts, recently celebrating 10 years of legalized same sex marriage, they chose a place they both loved but was also a destination… Provincetown!
The wedding took place on the ocean-front lawn at the Provincetown Inn (the weather cleared up just in time for the ceremony). Followed by a Lobster clam bake reception under a tent. The theme throughout was Nautical, with navy, white, and green being the wedding colors.
Planning the wedding, they wanted to keep the natural casual feel people have when on vacation in Provincetown. It was also important that their guests have a truly memorable Cape Cod experience.
