Ohio Country Club Sunset Wedding: Glenn & Dale
Sept. 13, 2015
Glenn and Dale met at a bar over Memorial Day weekend in 2003. They spent the rest of the weekend, the rest of Summer 2003 and every day since together. Waiting for 13 years for gay marriage to be legalized in their home state of Ohio, they regularly discussed getting married as soon as their friends and family could be part of a legally recognized ceremony. Their agreement took the place of a proposal.
Their six-year membership at their country club made it an easy choice for their wedding. They knew that they would be the first gay couple married at the historic club. The general manager texted them immediately following the Supreme Court decision asking, “Ready to set your date?” They chose Sunday, Sept. 13, 2015.
Glenn and Dale describe their planning experience as “organized chaos.” They had less than 11 weeks to plan, so they got down to business right away. First, they worked with the venue on their menu and logistics. Second, they selected their photographers and musician. They then worked with their florist to achieve a classy and masculine look. Ultimately, the September Ohio weather and the joy that their families and friends shared with them as they finally had the opportunity to get married made their day very special.
The newlyweds recommend that other couples not sweat the small stuff. Glenn shared, “The planning process should be as enjoyable and exciting as the event itself.” He added, “Don’t succumb to the pressure to invite too many guests. And lastly, do it your way, don’t follow the traditional plot and script. Have fun.”
