Orlando, Florida Military Wedding: Doris & Eunice
Aug. 6, 2016
A couple of years ago, Eunice accepted a position that required she relocate from New Jersey to Florida. She thought it would be nice to have acquaintances in the new city as she prepared for the move. Doris and Eunice shared a Facebook friend in common, so Eunice sent a friend request. The two chatted online for a few months, then Doris shared her phone number. When Eunice spent a week in Florida searching for a new home, Doris offered to spend the time with her – since that initial meeting they have been inseparable.
The June 25, 2015 SCOTUS ruling in favor of marriage equality was more than a human rights victory; it was a moment with such significance that it inspired Doris to propose to Eunice. They asked their families for their blessings and were supported entirely.
Doris and Eunice share a love of travel. They have often discussed purchasing a home in Italy. As they visited wedding venues, nothing seemed to suit their needs until they came across a Tuscan-inspired site. They toured the grounds and came upon a mural of the exact Italian town in which they dream of living. It was a pivotal moment and they knew they found the place to share their vows with their loved ones.
With over a year to plan, Eunice and Doris tried to plan their wedding on their own. The demands of work and home soon proved too stressful and a chance meeting with a wedding planner while renting their chairs turned into the perfect solution. Their planner assisted with all of their decisions and kept the day moving according to plan.
The ceremony was very special. The officiant made it personal and inclusive and told the story of their love. She shared the essence of who Eunice and Doris are with their family and friends. A warming of the rings ceremony was a unique addition, where prior to sharing their vows their guests and loved ones said a prayer and blessed their rings and union. The most special moment, though, was seeing each other’s eyes as they stared at one another before sealing their lives together with a kiss.
The newlyweds would recommend other couples enjoy the planning phase. Eunice said, “You work so hard and long at trying to get the details as you envisage and in a blink of an eye it is over with.”
