Palm Springs: Eric & Darryl
Eric and Darryl dated for about 3 weeks before they got engaged. “We didn’t want people to think we were crazy, so waited a year and a half to tell people we were engaged,” the grooms explained. They got married on Oct. 10, 2014, in Palm Springs, with 45 friends and family members showering them with love.
The grooms had actually known each other casually for over two years before they started dating. Both are actors in Los Angeles, so they’d crossed paths in the theater world. It turned romantic when Eric attended the opening night performance of a show Darryl was in. Darryl invited him to the after-party, and they have been inseparable since.
They chose Palm Springs for the wedding location because they thought that would be a lovely place for all of their out-of-town guests to travel to. Their families had not met before, and the grooms loved seeing them interact and mingle in the days leading up to the wedding. “I know it’s kind of cheesy, but I loved seeing our various family members become friends on Facebook after the wedding,” Eric said.
The ceremony took place at the Moorten Botanical Garden, and the grooms wore traditional Filipino formal wear (the “Barong Tagalog”) to honor Darryl’s family roots. They switched into burgundy suits for the reception, which they hosted at a large house they rented in Palm Springs.
Eric and Darryl offer this advice to couples currently planning their wedding: We were engaged for a long time. You want to have some time to celebrate being engaged, and to have a shower if that’s your thing. But there was a lot of down time where we couldn’t do any more planning. I really think an extra-long engagement is not necessary. I think the ideal engagement time is 6 months, or a year maximum. — Eric I’ve worked as a wedding planner in the past, so doing this on our own was fun for me. But I know that’s not for everybody. So I’d recommend hiring a really good event planner, or someone you trust to help you with a DIY wedding, so you don’t have to think about any details on your wedding day and can focus on your guests. — Darryl
