July 25, 2016

Edgar and Macio met on March 30, 2014, at Edgar’s 40th birthday bash. The party was held at the same location where they would marry two years later. Macio was a plus one with a mutual friend. He exchanged looks with Edgar and it was love at first sight! They even had their first kiss that very night. They enjoyed their first date less than a week later.

Four months after they met, they took their first trip together to the Caribbean. Macio planned everything for the proposal. He was ready and wanted to share his life with Edgar. The night was perfect with the ocean, the sunset and a cliff-side table for two. The couple enjoyed an eight-course tasting menu and champagne all night. Before the dessert, the server brought “the special course,” a plate with the ring box floating on crushed ice with lots of orchids. Edgar’s face and reaction live forever in Macio’s heart – of course, he said “Yes!”

Macio admits that his guilty pleasure is an obsession for the color pink, and while planning the wedding, he asked Edgar for “pink, pink and pink.” Lucky for Macio, Edgar is a wedding designer and florist. Edgar politely suggested using lots of white instead. Ultimately, Macio did get thousands of pink roses!

The cherry blossom is Macio’s favorite flower. From invitation to wedding design, everything was inspired by its beauty and unique nature. According to Japanese culture, cherry blossoms represent love, joy, simplicity and friendship; exactly the principles of the grooms’ relationship. Endless nights of planning later, their beautiful design emerged.

Macio described the wedding in his own words: “The evening was set: Californian sunset, cherry blossom trees, family and friends together, and my best friend Maria ready to marry us. My mother walked me down the aisle, Edgar’s daughter walked him. I cried a lot, Edgar laughed a lot – usually it is the opposite. Every single word of the ceremony is forever with us. My sisters were there, my in-laws, Edgar’s family, our grandson. It was magical.”

Edgar and Macio felt blessed and thankful for all of their guests being around the to celebrate true love, real friendship and equality. They celebrated with mariachi and samba dancers, lots of food, lots of drinks and tons of excess.

The happy newlyweds offer this advice: “Drink lots of champagne. It’s a very stressful time, but it’s very exciting too. Use this time of planning to share amazing moments with your loved one. Don’t let the stress be the frontrunner of the process; it’s always great to have in mind that you’re planning a celebration of love, friendship, partnership and unity. Celebrate you; celebrate your loved one.”
