San Francisco City Hall Wedding: Rachel & Jennifer
May 21, 2015
Rachel and Jenn met at Jenn’s going away party from Stanford. Both are in the medical field, and Rachel had no idea that they worked in the same unit because they worked different shifts. Their chance meeting that night was love at first sight. After dating long-distance, Jenn moved to California to be with Rachel, and “the rest is history.”
Rachel and Jenn stayed at the Inn at the Market in Seattle, where “Sleepless in Seattle” was filmed. They had a breathtaking view of the water. Rachel was nervous the whole day. They rode the ferris wheel on the water, and after the first loop Rachel pulled out a little message in a bottle and handed it to Jenn. Inside the bottle, a note said “Jenn WUMM?” As she read it, Rachel got down on her knee and gave her the ring. Jenn was completely surprised.
Neither bride wanted a big, expensive wedding. Both have families from different areas, so they toyed with the idea of a destination wedding, but after much thought, decided on City Hall. The building is stunning and the vibe brought chills to Rachel.
Rachel and Jenn didn’t plan much, but focused on the photographer, which they highly recommend to all couples. Everything else that day was a surprise to both brides. After spending several hours shooting photos, they went out for an amazing dinner with Jenn’s brother and called it a night. To these brides, it was perfect.
The most special part of their wedding was the time of year they chose. They planned their union right after Jenn’s birthday and right before Rachel’s. Every year, they plan to vacation in May to celebrate their birthdays and anniversary.
The photo shoot was one of the couple’s favorite memories of the big day. Their photographer was knowledgeable about locations to shoot, and Rachel and Jenn just relaxed and acted silly together.
Rachel’s advice for other couples, gay or straight, is to just have fun with planning the wedding. You don’t have to spend thousands of dollars to make lasting memories.
