Santa Barbara Elopement: Shauna & Lisa
February 20, 2015
When Shauna and Lisa met, Shauna was in the process of planning a move to Ireland. On her first day of work at a new job, she met Lisa. They were introduced; shook hands, and sparks flew! All of Shauna’s plans to move crumbled. Shauna made Lisa a mix CD (reminiscent of mix tapes) and to Lisa’s surprise, each song conveyed an important feeling or meaning. Lisa found it romantic and sweet and when Shauna returned, they began dating.
Lisa suggested that the couple spend New Years in Ireland with Shauna’s friends. She secretly searched for over a year for the perfect engagement ring. She made arrangements through their friends in Ireland to schedule time away from the group for a say a the Merrion Hotel. After a perfect evening, while walking back to the hotel along St. Stephen’s Green, Lisa pulled a beautiful ring out of her pocket and explained why the couple was in Ireland.
After Prop 8 was overturned, the couple felt it was time to move forward with their marriage. They knew they wanted a courthouse wedding and knew they wanted to elope – just the two of them. They researched courthouses in locations they liked and chose the most beautiful: Santa Barbara.
Planning for their wedding went very smoothly. Certain details were important, but they were on the same page on many points. The rings were on the “important” list. They needed to be conflict-free, simple, and timeless. They chose a set from Brilliant Earth that fit the bill.
Even though they were planning an elopement for two, the brides took a practice trip to Santa Barbara in advance, and traced all the spots they would need to go on the wedding day. They timed their route from the hotel to the courthouse, and made note of parking. They also met with their photographer. Attending to these details allowed them to relax when the big day finally came.
As newlyweds, Shauna and Lisa announced their union by sending custom-designed cards from Santa Barbara during their stay, along with a wallet-sized photograph from their official wedding photos.
Asked to recall what their favorite memory of their day was, Shauna and Lisa reminisced, “There are so many, but the best part was looking into each other’s eyes and repeating our vows. As we held hands, we could feel the strength of our union. We were in our own little world.”
