Stylish New York Wedding: Ryan & Sebastian
June 8, 2012
Ryan and Sebastian’s wedding was inspired by their cultural origins. Sebastian is from Paraguay and Ryan from Michigan. Throughout their details, they incorporated a celebration of their cultural diversity and the love they found together.
The couple chose their venue, the Hudson Hotel in New York, because it had a “male chic” vibe and was also the site of one of their first dates.
All of Sebastian and Ryan’s paper products, including their invitations, menu, ceremony programs, and escort cards, included a Paraguayan immigration stamp, a Michigan stamp, and a custom Sebastian and Ryan passport stamp with the date of the wedding. Spanish was used for certain key words and phrases, and portions of the ceremony were spoken in Spanish.
In lieu of a candle lighting ceremony, they did a sand blending ceremony where Sebastian poured red sand (representing the color of earth in Paraguay), and Ryan poured tan sand (representing the color of the beaches along Lake Michigan) into one vase, symbolizing the blending of their live, families, and cultures.
It was important to both grooms that the flowers and décor be masculine and rustic, yet modern and stylish. Hatch Creative Studio and the Hudson Hotel captured the balance perfectly.
There were a few other special touches, including using the Passion Flower, or the national flower of Paraguay. The ceremony arch was made of aspen trees, a reference to the aspen forest in Colorado where Ryan proposed to Sebastian during a beautiful horseback ride.
