Catie Curtis and GayWeddings.com Offer Gay Couples a Once in a Lifetime Experience
WASHINGTON, D.C. (December 6, 2010) – Catie Curtis announced today that she has formed a strategic partnership with GayWeddings.com, the pioneering online boutique and resource for planning same-sex weddings. Recognized as a top performing folk singer-songwriter and lesbian icon, Curtis will serve as a wedding officiate and help same-sex couples design their own ceremonies.
This partnership comes at a time when acceptance of same sex marriage, civil unions and commitment ceremonies are on the rise. Just this year, the 2010 Census Bureau served as the first census to recognize gay marriage as an option. To date, five states and one federal district recognize same sex marriage, thus more couples are coming out of the closet and heading down the aisle.
“We share with Catie the value and mission of helping gay couples celebrate their love for one another,” said Kathryn Hamm, President of GayWeddings.com. “Imagine that you and your partner could have the songwriter who created your favorite love song walk you through your exchange of vows and then perform that very song at your ceremony or reception. We strive to bring our clients the very best resources for their wedding celebrations and I can think of no better example,” said Hamm.
Recent opportunities for gay couples to legally marry and the growing acceptance of same sex marriage in the U.S. have resulted in an increase in more couples in all states seeking a public exchange of vows, legal and non?legal.
Given this national landscape and the recent attention in jurisdictions such as California (surrounding Proposition 8) and Illinois recent acceptance of civil unions (pending the governor’s signature), gay couples across America are searching for meaningful opportunities to express their love, devotion and commitment to friends, family and community.
“Much of my inspiration for lyrics and music is rooted in the expression of love. I am thankful to participate and help gay and lesbian couples celebrate on their memorable wedding day,” said Catie Curtis.
