Wedding Officiant in 20815

Rabbi Laurie Green officiates weddings, bar/bat mitzvahs, baby namings and other life cycle events throughout DC, Maryland, Virginia and Pennsylvania, as well as destination weddings. She specializes in personalized ceremonies and creative ritual.

It's my privilege to help you create a beautiful ceremony that fits your values, and represents who you truly are as individuals and as a couple.  Together we will create a warm, unique, highly-personalized and inclusive ritual which will blend tradition and innovation, in the proportions just right for you.  It's my pleasure to help you create the wedding ceremony of your dreams, stress-free.

I officiate mostly Jewish weddings (both interfaith and exclusively Jewish), but I am also honored to create entirely secular ceremonies, or to officiate generally God-based ceremonies for non-Jewish couples.  Over the dozens of weddings I've officiated, I have brushed up on my Spanish for the sake of parents watching via Skype in Paraguay, learned about Chinese wedding customs, and helped atheists with religious parents get married with integrity and without family drama.  I will co-officiate under specific circumstances, which I am happy to discuss.

Every wedding is unique!  What do you imagine for yours?

We can be as creative, or as traditional, as you want to be.  It is my pleasure to work with conventional and unconventional partners across a wide-spectrum of religious views, sexual orientations, gender identities, relationship structures, and cultural backgrounds.  I work with same-sex as well as opposite-sex couples, and with LGBT as well as mainstream organizations.  I have an academic background in feminist midrash (Jewish Biblical interpretation), creative liturgy, and comparative religion, and it is my pleasure to offer my expertise to help you find or create the perfect music, poetry, readings and rituals.

I offer a variety of optional related services, including pre-marital counseling and Hebrew translation.  In some areas, I am able to help you apply for and pick up your marriage license, if you are applying from out of state.  I also officiate ceremonies in the absence of civil licenses whenever it is lawful and ethical to do so.

In addition to weddings, I officiate baby namings, anniversary blessings and the entire spectrum of life events, and offer spiritual guidance and private classes.

Whether you are 23 years old or 73 years old, whether you have known each other for 6 months or 60 years, I would love to guide you on the exciting journey to your special day.

Overall our experience with Rabbai Laurie was very pleasant! My husband and I come from more of a non-traditional background, me being Jewish and him being raised Catholic-- but we wanted to include some Jewish traditions in our ceremony. Laurie was really helpful, and knowledgable and even educated us on our options over the phone-- which made it really clear on what we did and didn't want. Additionally, Laurie was very professional and made our ceremony a beautiful memory we will never forget.

Laurie was a wonderful officiant and conducted a beautiful ceremony. My husband is not of the Jewish faith and she explained the customs well so he could feel comfortable with them. Many people complimented Laurie, saying it was the best ceremony they had seen.

Rabbi Laurie led an absolutely beautiful ceremony. It was personal and made us feel so special. It had enough of the traditional Jewish wedding parts without being overly traditional so that my non Jewish friends felt like they knew what was going on and felt included in the ceremony. I am so happy she was our officiant and truly indebted to her for giving us such a wonderful memory. I cannot recommend her highly enough.
Rabbi Laurie Green responded with the following comments:
Thanks so much, you two. My pleasure. Best of luck!

Rabbi Laurie was so helpful throughout the process of putting together a service that was meaningful to us, personal, and unique. She gave us a lot of options so we could choose what felt best to us and was always great about answering any questions along the way and making sure we felt comfortable and happy with our choices. Many of our guests commented on what a special ceremony it was and how nicely Rabbi Laurie officiated (ceremony was located in Howard County, MD). We also did some sessions with her beforehand that were more oriented towards premarriage counseling and that was very helpful in posing questions to us that we hadn't talked about much before, including topics that were important to address before marriage. After discussing them, we felt even more prepared for our future together, and we were definitely glad we invested the time to do that.
Rabbi Laurie Green responded with the following comments:
Thanks, Lindsay. It was my honor. Best of luck to you and Adam.

Rabbi Laurie Green was wonderful to work with. We were planning an interfaith ceremony and she was very accommodating with our requests. She put a lot of time into the planning of the ceremony and she was also very upfront about what would work with the ceremony. Her clarity helped us make good decisions. She took great care of us and we really enjoyed the ceremony. And many of our guests remarked how much they liked her and they told us she did a wonderful job. We were thrilled with the experience and we would gladly recommend her as a wonderful officiant.

Rabbi Green will consult with you and be flexible about your choices and goals, while educating you on the import of your options. She holds a beautiful service. Every aspect of the service is mindful of the two individuals who are marrying; this is not a cookie-cutter ceremony.
Rabbi Laurie Green responded with the following comments:
Congratulations to you both. It was my pleasure.

We had the pleasure of having Rabbi Green officiate our wedding. She led a beautiful ceremony, and so many of our friends and family approached us afterwards to say how much they were impressed by Rabbi Green. Leading up to the ceremony, we met with the Rabbi on several occasions for both pre-marital counseling and to plan the ceremony. We found each of these meetings to be insightful and helpful. Rabbi Green helped us create a ceremony that infused old and new Jewish traditions with our own values and interests. Because of her guidance and wonderful officiating skills, our wedding ceremony was full of emotion, humor, and tradition.
Rabbi Laurie Green responded with the following comments:
Thanks Chad. It was a very memorable wedding. I've never before married a professional comedian, and I've never laughed so hard at a wedding. What fun!

When we asked Rabbi Laurie Green to officiate our wedding, we could not have guessed that we would soon have a marital counselor, practical advisor, spiritual guide, therapist and friend. My husband and I are both Jewish, with differing degrees of formal Jewish schooling and spirituality. We are also gay, in our mid-20’s, and were not active in the Jewish community in D.C. When we met Rabbi Laurie, we immediately connected with her. She is that rare breed of spiritual leader who can blend deep religious values and tradition with a practical, modern and no-nonsense attitude. For the better part of a year, we met with Rabbi Laurie for pre-marital counseling. These sessions were extremely helpful and provoked important conversations between us. She focused on practical and concrete themes, incorporating many topics relevant to LGBTQ people. Rabbi Laurie was extremely mindful of the particular issues and challenges we face as a gay couple, and she was instrumental in crafting a ceremony that was rooted in Jewish tradition and sensitive to our specific circumstances. Through our meetings with her, we developed a close relationship of trust with her, something neither of us had experienced with previous rabbis in our lives. When we faced some family challenges related to the wedding, Rabbi Laurie volunteered her time to offer wise spiritual and practical advice, and really helped us to overcome a potential disaster. It’s clear that she puts her congregants and wedding couples first. By the time the wedding day arrived, it felt like a close, personal friend was officiating. The ceremony was beautiful, personal, thoughtful, and inclusive of all guests, many of whom were not Jewish. Rabbi Laurie brought humor, personal anecdotes and religious customs into the ceremony, in a way that felt accessible while keeping things quite traditional. A number of our guests have commented to us about how much they enjoyed how Rabbi Laurie conducted the ceremony.
Rabbi Laurie Green responded with the following comments:
Thanks Ari and David. It was my honor. I'm just sorry CA stole you away. I miss you both!

A joyful event with the perfect Rabbi to be our Officiant. Rabbi Green provided the guidance, and flexibility to ensure everyone's needs were met. The "care & feeding" for a Jewish & interfaith ceremony was artistically and skillfully orchestrated, resulting in a beautiful, beautiful event - that all family loved, and we most appreciated. The joy of the event was beyond words, and both families, and the brides were overwhelmed with the ceremony, celebration and love that exuded on this special day -- brought together in close collaboration with, and assistance from Rabbi Green; who did so much to make this day so very, very special to all. Thank you for our Ketubah signing, our beautiful ceremony and everything else throughout as everything came together to ensure a special day and blessings appropriate to a legal marriage.
Rabbi Laurie Green responded with the following comments:
My pleasure!

We were very clear as to the type of service we wanted and we were very clear as to the content of the service as well as the text we wanted and how it would be presented. Because we were able to identify the order, content, and text there were no suprises. Rabbi Lauri was extremely accommodating and supportive of the type of service we wanted.
Rabbi Laurie Green responded with the following comments:
It was my honor. I loved creating a social justice ceremony with you.
