We had Jeremy from musical DJs do our wedding, I had tons of positive feedback from my guests. He was upbeat and fun, my husband and I absolutely loved him. He did an amazing job, better than I could have ever asked for! I had spoken with him a few weeks prior to our wedding, he made it so easy, and stress free. Needless to say he made our big day even more special. We are so happy we went with musical DJs and we recommend Jeremy for he did an amazing job!!

I used musical DJs for my cocktail hour and wedding reception. At my cocktail hour I had a three piece band. The band sounded great, it was the perfect touch I was looking for to make my cocktail hour unique. For my reception Dan was my DJ. He provided up lights as well. Dan did a great job at keeping the timeline on track, and keeping the night flowing. Everything went smoothly with his help. It was great that he would coordinate with me right before we started something (ie. first dances, meals, cake cutting) just to be sure I was on the same page as him. The music started off a bit slow, as I think he wanted to play songs for the older crowd but I had a lot of younger guests. I got a little nervous, but it was only a few songs that weren't getting the dance floor going... after dinner the dance floor was packed the whole time. He did a great job at playing my must plays, although there were a couple that were not played which is understandable. He also threw in some songs that were great but not on my list which was a nice surprise. Everyone had a great time, as I said the dance floor was packed for hours. Also, the preparation for the wedding was made easier with the software provided by musical DJs. It helped me to keep everything organized and allowed for one place to keep everything. It made it a whole lot easier to communicate to Dan and organize my music requests.

Our DJ, DJ Matt, was just what we wanted at our wedding. He played all the songs we requested and created a playlist based on those requested songs that fit our tastes perfectly. That being said, we had an up and down time getting to the actual wedding day. Working with Dan, the owner, was great. Musical DJs was our first choice, but they were a little more expensive than we were wanting, so Dan worked with us to get the cost down to make it more affordable. He also agreed to bring a little extra equipment to make sure we had exactly what we needed for our reception. We were feeling really good about Musical DJs until we got to the walkthrough. Our DJ didn't show! He was sick, so it was definitely not his fault, but we never heard from either him or Dan. We followed up and both of them apologized, of course. DJ Matt did eventual call our wedding coordinator to go over some specifics for the day-of, but the overall communication between us and Musical DJ was not the best. It worked out in the end, but leading up to the wedding the DJ was definitely what we were most concerned about. Just to reiterate, DJ Matt was great. He was there in plenty of time to get the microphones set up for the ceremony and to get his equipment set up at the reception. He was on top of the timeline and had a really great playlist. Several people commented on how nice the musical was during dinner specifically. Also, after the wedding he sent us a nice picture he took during the cocktail hour and thanked us for the day. We would have given Musical DJs a full 5 stars had the communication been a little bit better.

Musical DJs were a great value for us and provided a fun party. They listened to our music requests and helped steer us away from booking a more expensive band (which they could have provided) because of the configurations of our venue. We were well served and would recommend them to others.

Overall, my fiance and I were happy with our selection of Musical DJs and would definitely work with this company again. We loved the idea of obtaining live music AND quality emcee/DJ services through one vendor. We worked with Dan L. and he was obviously very passionate about his music and the importance of professionalism, in addition to being a gifted musician. His mic system was great-I don't think our guests had any issues hearing the outdoor ceremony. Dan, who played the acoustic guitar for our ceremony, even put together a special arrangement for us. Constructive criticism relates to communications. While Dan was initially very engaging, I found him to be unresponsive in the 2 weeks leading up to the wedding. (We signed our contract months before the wedding, so hadn't needed to contact Dan again until just before the event and also about 2 months beforehand to find out what meal he'd like.) About 2 weeks out, I sent Dan our tentative event schedule and asked him to take a look and let us know if it looked OK or if he had any recommendations for better timing. I also asked him to confirm that he could do a special arrangement of a tricky processional song. With a DIY wedding, it would have really put us at ease to have a confirmation on the arrangement and schedule. But Dan never responded, despite sending a couple emails to him. Instead, we ended up coordinating in the last week with some colleague of Dan's. She was nice, but the lack of response from Dan was sort of perplexing and the process at the end felt a bit unorganized. Overall, though, the event went off very well. (Although "Shout" was played at our wedding, despite being one of the 3 songs we listed on our DO NOT PLAY list.) My mom (aged 63) complained a lot after the event that she didn't have anything to dance to...my husband and I were happy with it, but didn't pay a lot of attention during the event, so maybe consider requesting specific songs in advance if that's a concern.

Thanks for the kind words. While I own this company, it's not possible for me to handle every timeline and communication with every client during the planning phase. We have a full time assistant named Karen that handles this. She makes herself known to all clients in advance, and of course if someone has a specific question I do my best to answer it personally. I remember this event well, and I'm sorry they did not get the feedback in a timely manner. I make myself available by cell and email, and usually reply to calls in 24 hours or less.

Overall, we were very happy with musical DJ's and our assigned DJ, Jeremy. Dan was always quick to return phone calls and emails throughout the process, which was very important to me and put me at ease. The one and only time I felt a little uneasy about things was with about a week or two prior to our wedding, I received a call from Dan stating that I wasn't going to get my previously assigned DJ. I panicked a little at first because I had not seen any reviews about my newly assigned DJ, Jeremy. Of course looking back, there was no reason to panic. Jeremy was great! He kept things running and on schedule so we could just enjoy the night. Most importantly, I think everyone had a blast in large part to Jeremy.

Dan Lamaestra was our DJ at our early October wedding: my biggest advice is to sit back and let the DJ do their thing because they know how to get the crowd going! The music Dan played got my guests up out of their seats and I did not stop dancing for about 3 hours straight. He was very accommodating of me adding an hour to the reception music and he brought wireless mic equipment for my officiant to use. Their online forum for creating your wedding music profile is intuitive and a great feature to plan out the "must plays" and the "do not plays." Dan is a professional to the core and knows the ins and outs of the wedding business. I will definitely recommend Musical DJs to friends and family.

DJ Dan is amazing. He took the time to help us compose a song especially for the wedding. However, on the day of we got someone other than Dan. Our DJ- Ro- ignored many of the things we specifically stated we wanted. We paid extra for piano music during dinner, but he forgot to amp the sound so it was virtually impossible to hear it. We requested a 1-minute father-daughter dance because the bride's father is currently undergoing Chemotherpy and he again ,completely ignored our requests and played the entire 3 minute song. If you get Dan, sign up. If not, be cautious.

Dan was great to work with in a professional sense. He was organized, prepared & seemed to care about his clients. Unfortunately, he had another gig to perform at the same time of our wedding & we were given John Ware to work with. Dan made us aware of this shift; however, I think it would have been much better if Dan remained our DJ in the end. John was very quiet - to the point that hardly anyone could hear his announcements causing the bride's family to miss the cake cutting. I (being the bride) personally went up to the DJ booth 4 times during the reception to request song changes to keep the party upbeat, and I requested 2 people to request a song change in addition to my 4. I wish that John would have taken to heart that I was requesting up-beat music to get the crowd to dance instead of changing to mellow music. I do give him credit for always changing when I asked him to; however, I would have appreciated his 15 years of experience to allow him to know that the crowd responds to faster music, not slower.
Musical DJs & Event Lighting responded with the following comments:
We were asked to provide low-key, non-interactive dj/emcee service. We can certainly provide more involved MC'ing, and more interactive services, if requested, just ask us at time of booking. Also, we never send a DJ to an event without approval from our clients, and always provide recent references for each perfomer prior to booking when asked. We had a specific and extensive “must play” song list provided in advance, which we adhered to, while keeping the dance floor packed with additional selections. It is also not uncommon to group 2 ballads together from time to time, to give couples a chance to make it onto the dance floor for slow dancing. Our sound systems consist of top brands in pro loudspeakers and amplifiers, to clearly carry the music and announcements throughout a large ballroom, and we can always add more speakers to a setup if the room requires it for more complete coverage. Unless requested otherwise, it is a priority for us to clearly announce each event at a reception, repeatedly if needed, so that the guests are all aware of what is happening. We do many different kinds of weddings for many different kinds of people- we are happy to participate in all or some the planning for the music and order of events, please just ask!

The music provided really enhansed the experience, but I feel that the DJ didn't handle the event as well as he could have. My main dislike was that two days before the wedding, I was asked to provide all the details retaining to the reception. I had been in constant contact with the DJ's and this should have been brought up much earlier. We also were promised a "checklist/time line of events." We never got that. During the cocktail hour, the songs started skipping and the DJ was not at his station. I (the groom) noticed the songs skipping and pointed it out to a few people and had some people go search for our DJ to solve the problem. I'm sure it was a mistake that would probably rarely ever happen, but it did happen to me. The song's played were great, he responded to all our requests and played a few songs past the end of the event. I was extremely happy with his flexibility towards letting me play a song using his guitar set up. If there weren't those hitches prior to the wedding and the songs skipping, I would have given him 5/5 stars accross the board.
Musical DJs & Event Lighting responded with the following comments:
We do in fact provide a detailed timeline for all of our events, and rely on the client to provide us with the details so we can put it together. Our website features very simple and easy to use tools to assist in providing us with the needed details. We rarely use cd's, so skipping is a problem that we usually don't have. Our DJ was not at the booth at the moment mentioned in this review because he was in another room for not more than a few minutes advising a nervous Maid of Honor on how best to get her toast started. It is very unfortunate that a special cd he put in to keep music going during dinner happened to skip exactly when he stepped out. We are usually always at our booth, or somewhere in the room. Part of our business ethic is to have "ready to go" solutions to problems that could come up. This is why we show up with back up equipment. If and when a problem comes up, specifically a technical one, we are very good at fixing it promptly. Things can happen to anyone at any time, so it's important to have confidence that your DJ company has what it takes to overcome issues and produce a great event, no matter what happens.

Overall we got what we needed. However, I met with our DJ a month prior to our wedding and had written out all the "special" songs as requested by our Dj. The day BEFOREHAND my wedding he emails and calls me frantically telling me he cannot find the list of songs I provided him. I emailed all the specifics to him and he still played the WRONG song for my first dance. I was very disappointed and will not book with this company again. He was a very nice DJ, but did not accomplished what he said he would in the contract.

I really wanted to write a review regarding Musical DJ's because I do not want another bride to have the unfortunate experience I recently had. I have read many positive reviews on here, which made me feel even better about my choice to use them. A word of caution however: Dan may be great, and some of the others may be great, but when hiring this company, don't just get any one of their dj's...look for someone reviewed on here, or don't settle for anyone other than Dan.The bottom line...they are not all great, which is misleading after talking with Dan (because he is so personable and affirming). To give a little context, I had a very small and very short wedding. The ceremony began at 8:00pm and the reception was on site and over by 9:45pm. When I contacted Dan about my wedding, he made me feel completely at ease. He was professional, personable and well spoken...I worried over many wedding details, but the DJ was never one of my concerns. Karen from http://www.fabaffairs.net/ works closely with Dan, and she too was very good at answering questions and getting back with me quickly. Unfortunately, I did not have Dan or Karen at my wedding...I had Jeremy. The good: 1) He was on time 2) He was friendly 3) He was well dressed 4) He did a decent job at the reception (my only complaint: he mixed in a lot of Dj choice songs, not getting to ours (our reception was quite short (and intentionally so) 5) He stayed till the very end Let me start by saying...I chose to have my ceremony without live music...it was a risk, but I felt at ease with Musical Dj's, and I felt they would do an excellent job. The bad (the ceremony): 1) The music was not faded, in any way. Songs that were played were abruptly stopped during choruses or versus. It made the ceremony feel awkward and unprofessional. My fiance' and his best man run the sound system at church, and his best man later commented that he could have faded the songs out for us. 2) The music was not loud enough, my fiance' had to motion for the Jeremy to turn to music up during the ceremony (while we were at the alter) 3) One of our requested songs was not played at all. If this song was not able to be located, it would have been better for us to have been told before the service that the song was not going to be played (instead of everyone being confused during the ceremony) 4) Pre-wedding day we were given instructions to log online and fill out song selections...we were never able to log in (even after a few back and forth e-mails) our passwords/log in info was not accurate. We were not concerned however, because we were told we could e-mail our song selections...which we did 5) Also, I was told we would have a ceremony microphone (we had a small wedding, but we needed it for the wedding video) it was never provided In conclusion, I really felt that Jeremy was well prepared to DJ the reception, however, the ceremony music was very poorly done (and the ceremony was very important to us). I contacted the company after the wedding and was told that Dan was out of the country and would get back to me in August...I still have not heard anything.
Musical DJs & Event Lighting responded with the following comments:
Upon reading this review, we spent some time reviewing all past correspondence with this client to attempt to understand how we missed certain key elements. We are always very meticulous and organized, as our many other reviews demonstrate. I myself spent several hours locating songs and helping Jeremy prepare for the event, since due to the log in complications, we received requests very late. A few things to note: We use a an online system with unique log on codes. In 2011, over 200 clients successfully used this system. I still do not understand how this client had a problem with it. We have not been able to replicate the issue. Volume is a very subjective issue at events, and we are trained to use our best judgement when providing background music for ceremonies. If someone wants it higher or lower, they can let us know, but the truth is, what's best for one person may be wrong for another. This is a tough call. I don't remember any time I was asked to turn up music at a ceremony, this comment was a surprise. We do mix and fade music when we are playing it. However in this instance, the DJ chose not to, which I agree was an error. He has been talked to about it. This is a very rare mistake, and I am sorry it happened that way. It's not how we usually do things! There was no ceremony microphone on the contract, or in any email. I am not sure where that expectation came from. We usually charge extra for ceremony microphones, as the set up is more involved, and we have a limited supply. If you want this for your ceremony, make sure to ask, its not hard to bring along, but its not automatically included when we simply play music during a ceremony. Finally, the song he "did not play" at the ceremony. We have looked and looked, but I still cannot find a single email that lists a song for the ceremony that I did not prepare for him in advance. In fact, even our timeline does not have a song listed that we did not have. Again, a surprise. And with respect to our timelines, we make it a point to not only help create them for everyone that hires us, but also email them in advance to make sure there are no errors or missing information. This habit usually serves to "catch" errors before its too late. We will continue in our efforts to provide highly personalized services to our clients, and will do our best to learn what we can from these rare occasions were expectations are not met.
