I got married there just for the venue, the place is lovely, and the view is spectacular! As soon as I saw it, I knew this was were I wanted to get married. And it was a beautiful ceremony and reception. The only thing I did not like was the food, very average but you have to use their caterers. Also, I wanted a specific chicken served at the dinner and they served a totally different type of chicken dish. But all else was great. I only wish they would allow you to have a recpetion that lasts more than 4 hours!

When we first signed up with Herrington (HOTB), the Event Design Manager was Stacey Hill. She was terrific. Unfortunately, she moved away before our wedding. Our "day-of coordinator" was Lexy Harvey. Our first red flag w/ Lexy came in April when we needed to meet with her for planning. She told us that her only availability was Monday, Tuesday, & Thursday, from 9am-5pm. No availability on evenings or weekends. (In contrast to Stacey who would work with OUR schedule.) Since we live in Virginia, & have jobs, taking time off from work to have a short meeting w/ Lexy, to accommodate her schedule, was not an option. In contrast, Stacey was available via phone or email, 24/7. This new crew only works “their scheduled hours”. If you try to call or email them outside of those hours, you will get an out of office message that says they won’t be in touch until “their shift” starts again. If you think a wedding venue and their coordinators should be available more than “9-5”, then keep this in mind when considering HOTB. On the day of the wedding, we didn't see Lexy until AFTER our ceremony. Even then, we only saw her a couple of times during dinner, & that was it. Adria, another coordinator, was present at the ceremony site, but didn't have a clue what was going on. I asked her where I should stand before the ceremony and Adria said "I don't know." She later asked me if we had a flower girl, & I told her no. She asked who was supposed to put the rose petals down, and I said “You are.” She then replied, “oh”, & ran over to the ceremony site to lay them on the ground. Finally, the bus was supposed to pick up my bride at her Inn room. It went to the wrong location so she had to walk over to the ceremony site in her dress. In conclusion, we’d only recommend HOTB if you have your own Wedding Planner. If not, there are plenty of other venues on the bay that are just as beautiful, but with superior service, which will ultimately mean a better event for you & less stress.

Herrington was a beautiful place to get married. The servers were excellent. The only problems we had was the organization of the event. They didn't help with anything other than food and beverage. Most of the other set up (decorations, table numbers, and place cards) had to be done by us. For what we paid to rent I think that decorations and all set up should have been included. Also, they had no rooms for the bride and groom to get ready in. You had to rent a room at the nearby hotel. That was difficult because we lived an hour and a half away from the site.

We had a beautiful buffet set up on the deck overlooking the yachts. We had servers behind every station to greet the guests and serve the food into their plates. The food was delicious, I remember the chicken being just the right kind of juicy. For the hors d'ouvres we had cheese and spinach quiches and fiesta rolls and wanted the quiches to be butler-passed while the rolls displayed on a table. Instead someone told me (we missed the entire cocktail hour taking pics!) that both were buttler-passed, so they didn't do it to my exact specifications but I think it worked out well at the end. I can only imagine that it made it look even more elegant. It looks like everyone drooled over the quiches. There were some things that we wish our event coordinator and his team had handled better and they did mess up several of my specifications, including a very important one: they served beer and wine even though i asked for full bar! I don't know how they could've made such a mistake, during the planning we even specified that the staff would check with me whether I wanted to increase the tab or not.

Don't get me wrong - my wedding was the best day of my life and I am SO glad we had it at Herrington on the Bay. But given how much we paid for our wedding, Herrington leaves something to be desired. We chose this venue because Herrington was everything my now-husband & I wanted - close to DC as well as major airports (only about a 45 minute drive), had on-site lodging (we wanted to be able to spend as much time with our guests as possible), & of course, it is an absolutely beautiful venue right on the bay. Now, for the cons, which of course we only realized later into the planning process: Herrington claims to be an all-inclusive venue, but they nickel-and-dime you, & upcharge for nearly everything. Want to extend your reception until 11? Upcharge. Want to do a private tasting to choose the food you'll serve at the wedding? Upcharge. Want someone (whose services you're already paying for) to walk around pouring wine (which you're also paying for) during dinner? Upcharge. I could go on and on. The other major issue I had was Herrington's coordination (really, lack thereof) with the Inn at Herrington Harbour. As I mentioned above, having on-site lodging was a major selling point for us - we would not have chosen Herrington had they not had it. Though they bear the same name, the wedding venue & inn are two separate entities, & there is little to no communication between the two. What's more, Herrington the Inn has a RIDICULOUS room booking & cancelation policy - this was the biggest source of stress in the entire wedding planning process. We had to pre-book and pre-pay for ALL of the rooms in order to ensure our guests could stay there. Then, we had to have every single guest reimburse us. Very awkward and very stressful. All in all, Herrington is a truly beautiful place & I loved getting married there, but I feel strongly that the owners should reassess their pricing structure as well as how they work with the inn. I feel I should have gotten more for my money.

The venue is absolutely gorgeous and that's the reaso we went with Herrington. When we first signed our contract everyone was very friendly and helpful and very responsive to emails, which is great. However, once it got closer to the wedding, it was very difficult to communicate with them. Emails would get responded to 3 days later. I was very disappointed in the fact that my wedding coordinator was not at my rehearsal. I had no idea what to do, where to stand or when to be ready. On my wedding day, which started at 5pm...no one came to get me in the bridal suite. It was about 5:05 and I had to send someone to ask what I was supposed to do next....I finally just came out of the suite and started walking. I felt like there was no direction at all. It did not make my already stressful day run smoothly at all. I would recommend this venue on the fact that it is absolutely gorgeous, but they need to step up their game plan.

Gorgeous place. Nice people. But they will nickle and dime you to death. Double whatever estimate they give you. Also, the food is terrible.

It was a beautiful venue but their service was horrible. Their favorite thing to say is well we wish we could. For as much as we spent it should have been let me see how we can. If you are fine with paying a lot of money and still having to do the work then this is the place for you.
