I have very mixed feelings about HVGC... I will start with the positive - the views are gorgeous. And Marissa, the on-site event manager, is extremely attentive. She was very aware of everything going on around her and truly helped to run things smoothly. Always checking with me and my husband before having the DJ announce something. When I needed safety pins last minute for my dress, she had them. When my sister got a charlie horse, she was right there with a bucket of warm water and some vitamins. And when one of my BMs felt sick, she offered soup, bread, fruit, etc. I can't say enough great things about Marissa! However, I have a ton of complaints. Just to name a few or many: The building itself is falling apart. I was told, and have photographic evidence, that the ceiling right above the dance floor was leaking before and right after my reception, creating a massive puddle on the dance floor. Apparently it smelled and was a brown liquid. The on-site staff didn't seem to think much of it as it apparently happens quite frequently. Thank god it didn't happen during the party! When I arrived the day before my wedding, there wasn't a roof....now, I totally understand the need for renovations and that the world does not revolve around me or my wedding, but I was not even told about this. It would have been nice to get a call or email. The food was overcooked from the majority of feedback I received - including mine and my husband's steak. They seem to be slightly inflexible on a few different things, like placement of the ceremony chairs, removing the patio bars (they do not have storage for any extra chairs/tables, so my event producer had to hide them under cocktail tables!), and serving some appetizers to my bridal party before the ceremony, just to name a few that come to mind immediately. Overall, it was a fun wedding and the views and Marissa were exceptional. But if I had to do it all over again? I probably would have chosen a different venue.

The day of our wedding, the hunt valley golf club did not provide us with a comfortable atmosphere for our reception. The air conditioning was not operating at a reasonable level. My guests were completely drenched with sweat. Many guests experienced health isssues and had to leave very early due to the extreme heat (including our grandparents). In our wedding photos everyone looks so sweaty. When we stepped outside on the balcony, it was cooler than inside the "air conditioned" reception space. We asked several times for someone to lower the air conditioning to a reasonable level but were told that they could not change the settings - despite the unbearable conditions. I am extremely disappointed that our big day, was blemished by hvgc's inability to provide us a comfortable atmosphere for the most special day of our lives.

Beware if you have food allergies: my son had a very serious food allergy reaction at this wedding venue in 2014 and they rejected to meet with me so that I could discuss measures that needed to be in place so this won't happen to someone else. We met with the chef, wedding planner, and other staff at the golf club ahead of time and discussed food concerns with them. All of them including the chef guaranteed that there would not be any of my son's allergens and that everything would be 100% safe for my son. The day of the wedding occurred and during dinner, my son started to get itchy around his mouth and we noticed that he had a few hives. Not before long, he was itchy all over and we gave him antihistamines at first. Bottom line is that I gave him epinephrine and he had to be taken to the ER via ambulance. After we were back at home the next couple days, I contacted the wedding venue to let them know that happened and I wanted to meet with the general manager to find out what went wrong and what allergen could've been in their food. My wife was able to get in touch with the chef and he seemed defensive and wouldn't take any responsibility for what happened. Bottom line is that no one would meet with me in-person to discuss the food preparations or measures to prevent this from occurring to anyone else in the future. I have zero confidence in this wedding venue to prepare safe food for individuals with food allergies. I understand that outside food preparations pose risks to individuals with food allergies, but when a wedding venue personally guarantees that everything would be washed, sanitized using commercial methods, no chance of cross-contact, separate kitchen used in the preparation, hand washing, and more, that gives a false sense of safety and trust when my son definitely had a very serious reaction from eating their food.

HVGC is absolutely beautiful and a great setting for a summer wedding. HOWEVER, the staff is very unprofessional, including the manager John. The food was ok, but we did not get what we had originally ordered and were very disappointed with the dinner service that was an hour late. Katie left during the ceremony, she does not stay for the reception and you find this out the day of the wedding. For the price you pay it is DEFINITELY not worth it. I would reccommend shopping around before commiting to this venue. They will promise you the world and deliver less than desireable service.
