Marisa & Erika
Marisa is a 31 y/o Active Duty Marine from Grand Rapids, Michigan who is stationed at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar in San Diego, CA. She is a professional musician for the Marine Corps and has served honorably for the last 12 years. Marisa has two children, one boy named Jaden who is 8 years old and one girl named Robyn who is 4 years old. She plans on getting out of the Marine Corps in 2014 to start a degree in Sports Medicine and Massage Therapy at Cal Poly Pomona University. Marisa is ready to begin this new chapter of her life and is whole-heartedly enthusiastic about beginning it with the girl of her dreams.
Erika is a 44 y/o Assistant Professor of Religious Studies from Newburyport, Massachusetts who teaches at Harvey Mudd College in Claremont, CA. For ten years, she worked in various theaters as a professional costume dresser for the Forbidden Broadway Company and was responsible for quickly changing actors and actresses into new costumes between scenes. Following her career in theater, she attended Mount Holyoke for her undergraduate degree, Colby College for her Master’s and earned her PhD at Columbia University in May 2010.
The brides met on an online dating site called OKCupid in November 2010 after both of them had suffered the abrupt ending of their respective relationships. Both ladies had sworn off dating, and certainly neither of them thought that their soul mate could be found wandering the pages of a free online dating website! Marisa was very persistent and kept on Erika to get that first date, despite Erika feigning disinterest and her attempts to put Marisa off in favor of her professorial obligations. In a week’s time, Marisa had convinced Erika to go on that first date down to Los Angeles’ famous Farmers Market at The Grove for some lunch and a jaunt over to the L.A. Contemporary Museum of Art to see the textile exhibit (Erika’s idea – she loves fabric).
The two women were nervous, but it was clear that both wanted to be there. Plus, Marisa thought Erika’s giddy energy was endearing; Erika thought Marisa’s apparent nervousness was comforting. It was a match made in heaven and if the rest of the date was any indication, the relationship was meant to stay.
