Teresa & Cherie

A fairy tale would imply that it was love at first sight, but it definitely wasn't ! Cherie and I hung in the same circles and I always thought she was a little too "out there" for me (as I later found out, she never even knew who I was !). I would see her all of the time and I thought she was quite sexy, I especially loved her smile and her one dimple but I'd never allow myself to succumb to my subconscious thoughts, I was determined to never admit to myself out loud what I really felt for her deep down within. She always had random females surrounding her and I learned through the grapevine that she was quite a "player." The truth of the matter was that I craved her attention and wished I could be with her. One fateful night, she threw a party at her house in which, surprisingly, I was invited to. I had $300 dollars in my pocket and ended up losing it somewhere inside of her home. I immediately went to her and told her what was going on. She wouldn't let anyone leave until they returned the money to me ! Needless to say I was quite impressed by this gesture. My money was never retrieved but she didn't faltered once in her promise she made to all of the party-goers. I inevitably told her to forget about it and that it was okay. I knew no one would be so bold as to admit to having taken it. As I was headed out the door, she pulled me to the side and gave me $50 and said that she was extremely sorry, repeatedly. She told me that she knew the $50 wasn't much but that she hoped it helped. She smiled that brilliant smile, her one dimple peeping out at me and at that moment, I knew I was looking at my wife and that it was only a matter of time. (Photo by Kevin Downey)
