Ross & Percy
We have been together for 16 years. We first met in 1991, but started dating in 1992. In 1993 we moved to Dallas, Texas and in 2003 we moved back to California. We have a 3.5 year old son, who we adopted in ’07.
In 2004, we had planned on getting married in San Francisco, when the city was giving out marriage licenses to gay and lesbian couples. Our date unfortunately was after they stopped the city from handing out anymore. At that time we made a vow to have a commitment ceremony of our love on our 13th anniversary on 02-12-05.
Being a wedding planner, I planned our commitment ceremony and reception for 170 of our family and friends at the Unitarian Society of Santa Barbara. It was a magical night filled with music, dance, laughter, toasts and a celebration of love.
On June 17, 2008 we were one of the first couples to get our legal marriage license from the City of Santa Barbara. Our friend, and Mayor of Santa Barbara, married us at 10am at the Courthouse Bell Tower in front of 30 family, friends and a slew of media (as we were the first couple in Santa Barbara to be married by the Mayor). We released balloons to signify the glorious moment while a small choir sang “Oh Happy Day”
The ceremony was followed by a small reception at a friends home in Montecito, California. If you would like to read more about our wedding day, please go to http://percysalesevents.blogspot.com/2008/06/back-and-legally-married.html to read all about it and see media reports of our wedding day as well.
