Taryn & Stefani
Stef and I were born and raised on Guam. Our father’s lived on the same street as boys and knew each other since, so there is some serious family history. When we were about 12 years old we met at the local softball field. She was the new kid on the block trying to get on the team that I played for. Naturally, I didn’t care for her :P. She did however make the team.
Some where down the road we eventually became friends. We hung out a little in high school, but we always had our own little crowd. Then shortly after my senior year of high school in 2002 life was taking a little toll on me — an unbeknownst to me, on her as well.
While trying to sort things through, I was in search of a “running partner.” Everyone I could think of was either involved with something else or with the thing I was trying to run from. She was the only one who wasn’t tied to either. And so she agreed. Funny thing, we NEVER ran.
We started hanging out. Going to softball games. Having dinner at our homes. And this is where it all began…
One evening I tagged along with her dad to watch her play a softball game. I was sitting right behind the backstop and she came up to bat. A weak and sloppy grounder to second base — thrown out at first. It was humiliating (just playing) As she walked pass the backstop I yelled, “that hit deserves a spanking.” To which she replied, “from you?” A laugh here and there. And then a nudge from her dad. When I turn to him, he sarcastically says, “wishful thinking.”
And here we are almost 6 years after that day planning a wedding. Who’da thunk? After getting to know one another and trying to figure things out, our life officially began June 7, 2003. And when the California Supreme Court overturn the ban on gay marriage in May 2008 we took that extra step. This past summer on July 7, 2008 we got HITCHED! It was the two of us, the officiant, and our witness — and in 20 minutes we became a legally recognized married couple in the state of California!
We decided that shortly after graduation we would renew our vows in front of our parents and siblings. All of this would take place on a lovely lake setting followed by an intimate wedding dinner. We’re so excited and absolutely cannot wait.
