Joyce & Beth

We actually met on Match.com. I was looking for friends in Phoenix as I was hoping to move back there and wanted to get a few lesbian friends since I currently don’t have any in the area. After a few emails we chatted on Yahoo. Beth gave me her number and after our first conversation I was hooked! We followed with two 8 hour conversations and nothing shy of 4 hours each day. Shortly after, I flew to Phoenix so we could meet. It seemed to be the longest flight of my life! She took me to the Nickel Creek concert for our first date. A few days later, I took her to Sedona to my favorite spot on earth….the look out point on Schnebly Hill Road. We sat for quite sometime talking, enjoying the view and taking in the sun….lots of it we found with our sunburn that night!

We spent the following months flying to see each other. Long distance is no fun but I wouldn’t change a thing. It made us get to know each other on such a different level.

Over Labor Day weekend while Beth was visiting me in Tampa, we decided to browse rings in Orlando. We had the most wonderful day picking out what we wanted…it seemed so right that we just purchased the rings. They were set, sized and shipped to a jewelry store in Phoenix. On October 13th, we flew to Huntington Beach, CA for the day. Before leaving for dinner, a nervous Beth sat me down and proposed to me. Of course I said yes! We had the most wonderful dinner and conversations. Afterwards we headed up to the room. As soon as we walked in the room Beth said, “WHAT THE HECK?!?!” when she noticed that while we were out, the hotel staff sprinkled rose petals all over the room, left champagne and chocolate covered strawberries….she said yes.

I got a job offer in Phoenix and moved there in November. Life together is so much better than I ever expected. I can’t wait to spend the rest our lives together.

Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.
